This very theatrical song was written as one of the very first for the album it so dramatically ends. When finished I remember being completely extatic because of the very visual vocals which fitted so well with the dramatic music. It has so many faces that it is hard to summerize the general pace and flow in short. It starts off in fast backbeat (quite unusual in ElviraMadigan) with fluent keyboard solos and quickly breaks the pace with the key-solo still flowing between the breaks. This middle section is very heavy and is rounded off with a softer interlude but eventually blasts off with the faster pace again (as the main caracter conjures his Lord but instead gets to meet the devil). The song ends in heavy riffing. Dark is the Seraphim features a more evolved storytelling and was actually the first English lyrics for "Wiches". Had it not been for this tracks successful vocals then chances are the entire CD would have been in Swedish. So perhaps we all have this song to give at least a little gratitude to eh? |
